How timely is this!? As a Canadian reader, I am well aware of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but had never actually read it. It’s been on my TBR for a while, primarily because I felt I must read it before diving into Percival’s James. I am now a six chapters into the LibroVox audio recording (narrated by Annie Coleman Rothenberg) and really enjoying the sly humour and subversiveness. I look forward to the discussions.
I read Huckleberry Finn last summer so won’t be reading along but am excited to read everyone’s comments. Such a good book and definitely a must read before reading James. Enjoy!
I haven’t read Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer since I was a kid. Should I reread Tom Sawyer first? I can’t remember how much they interact with each other
There's some overlap for sure, but they don't necessarily need to be read together. That said, I would do Tom Sawyer and then Huck Finn if you're going to read 'em both.
“You can draw a straight line from Huck to Scout Finch to Francie Nolan to just about every young narrator who sees the adult world a little too clearly.”
Oh I just love this quote. As a High School English teacher, who has taught my 11th graders To Kill A Mockingbird for the past two years, I hadn’t made this observation until you said it! You are absolutely right!
This is great timing! One of my online bookclubs read James a few months ago, but I didn't have time to read and participate. I'm glad to be reading this one first before I dive in to James!

I just bought “James” because I’ve heard so many good things, but since this is the Big Read I think I’ll hold off until I finish “Huckleberry Finn”!
Do that. My book club read Huck Finn then James and it added to the discussion of James.
I need to read this now!!

Looking forward. Does anyone recommend a particular edition? I prefer bigger type than the mass market paperback.
